This camp back by demand for a third season is being offered TBD Campers will receive hands on experiences with whole real foods! Learn about the microbes that make an “active” starter and create delicious sourdough baked goods. Campers will get to bring home their “starter” to continue sourdough adventures with Mom and Dad! We’ll plant a personal garden and learn about the nutritional attributes of selected plants and plant a potted garden to care for at home. Then we’ll create some snacks that you can make using the vegetable/herbs in their gardens from your harvest! We will also juice unusual combinations of fruits/vegetables and learn how their vivid colors are actually compounds that promote health in our bodies. Then we will use the pulp of the juice to explore composting, bringing the concept of growing a garden full circle—using discarded plants to fertilize new plants! We’ll explore the avocado and learn how to use this nutritious fruit in unexpected ways: avocado ice cream, avocado chocolate mousse. Then learn how to sprout the seed and continue to grow the avocado plant at home! Field trips may be planned to a local farm and local composting firm (based on availability at time of camp).
